Culture in the capital is represented in countless ways for both tourists and locals. Whether it is classical opera, upbeat musicals or alternative theatre – there really is something for everyone here.
We want to present to you in some more detail the most important locations in this regard:
The most famous theatre in all of Germany, founded in 1883 as the main theatre. Many famous actors appear here.

A unique and nationally known Baroque theatre which obtained its name from Bertolt Brecht
Adress: Berliner Ensemble, Bertolt-Brecht-Platz 1, 10117 Berlin
In the historical building from 1894 the most famous musicals and plays are listed for instance ‘My Fair Lady’.

State of the art multimedia theatre, is considered the largest theatre in Germany and hosts e.g. the famous Blue Man Group
Adress: Theater am Potsdamer Platz, Marlene-Dietrich-Platz 1, 10785 Berlin
Oldest theatre in Berlin, has stood since the year 1827, and was also in times of the DDR used as a state theatre.

A different form of theatre in which directors - often considered as controversial can actualise their plays, for instance Christoph Shlingenseif.

The Berlin State Opera on ‘Unter den Linden’ was built in 1742 and is as a result, the oldest stage in all of Berlin. After its destruction of the Second World War it was rebuilt to its original state in 1960.

Large modern theatre on the ‘Bismarckstraße’ which replaces the old opera house from 1912

Here international stars appear in first class ballet performances. The Berlin State Ballet is the largest ballet ensemble in Germany.

Historic city where in the 1960’s the first German-language operas were performed. Even today is one of the most popular operas in all of Germany.

Whilst excellent first class pieces are preformed in the Berlin Renaissance Theatre, the building itself is almost more of a focus. It is the only Art Deco theatre in Europe and was opened in the year 1927

This is a particularly young theatre - in which the directorial team even counts as one of the youngest around.However the quality speaks for itself – demonstrated amongst other things by the fact that the Theatre is frequently booked from abroad
